Awakening

The Awakening series of abstract paintings are a nostalgic journey back to vibrant colours, iconic pop culture, and the spirit of my generation - the 80's. 

As a child, I felt everything, the world seemed immediate and alive, brimming with possibility. In those early years, I was most myself: obsessed with nature and all forms of art, unguarded, curious, intuitive. Somewhere in my formative teenage years, like most, I began to wake. I started to draw the lines between who I was being told to be and who I truly felt myself to be.

This body of work is the visual retelling of my awakening. It is an ode to the many moments, now as an adult, when I noticed, stirred, stretched, and reshaped. It speaks of reclamation: of awareness, of voice, of intuition, of the childlike wonder that underlies all our becoming.
